Ain Sokhna at a glance
Ain Sokhna, whose name means "the hot spring", lies on the western shore of the Red Sea's Gulf of Suez, roughly two hours by road from Cairo. It has become a popular weekend beach escape, with sunshine all year and water sports from snorkelling to kitesurfing. Homes are mainly chalets and flats in holiday villages and resorts, used in winter as well as summer, which makes Sokhna a practical choice for people who want the sea on ordinary weekends.
Galala
Along the same coast, Al Galala City is a new planned city on the Northern Galala Plateau above the Gulf of Suez, with housing, resorts and Galala University, which took its first students in 2020. The 82 km Galala road, opened in 2017, runs from the Ain Sokhna road to near Zafarana.
Hurghada, El Gouna and the southern Red Sea
Further south, Hurghada is the largest city and capital of the Red Sea Governorate and one of Egypt's main resort destinations, served by Egypt's second-busiest airport. El Gouna, 20 km to the north, is a lagoon town of islands and marinas developed by Orascom Development, while Sahl Hasheesh and Soma Bay, south of the airport, are resort communities with their own residential areas.
Victory's Red Sea focus is Ain Sokhna. If you are looking further south, tell us what you need and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Getting there
From Zahraa Al Maadi, where Victory's office is, the Katameya to Ain Sokhna road is close at hand. Hurghada can also be reached by air: Hurghada International Airport has scheduled flights to Cairo.
Before you buy
- Check what lies near the resort. Sokhna is also a working port and industrial area, with oil and gas facilities and new factories opening in 2026.
- Ask about the maintenance fee and how the resort runs outside the holidays.
- Ask for the total price and the full payment schedule, and take independent legal advice before you sign.
